In your land, there may be stories of the Fae taking people away. Perhaps you haven't heard of the Fae at all, or perhaps you are more familiar with them than others. No matter how well acquainted you are with the Fae, everyone around you has experienced the same fate tonight: Being taken by them. Partially, at least. For they did not want to kidnap anyone from their home and take them away from the life they knew. In a small jar of fairy dust, part of your soul was taken in the night and brought to a magical village by the name of Fable.

On arrival, the Fae release you from the jar before waving their magic wands, and materialise this taken little part of you into a brand new you. From here onwards, your new life begins, shared among magical creatures from all walks of life. Here, you will be allowed to grow, thrive and enjoy the bounties provided to you by these mysterious and wonderful creatures. In exchange, they ask for a share of the magical fruit that you grow in your garden, in order for their dragon overseer to reclaim his own magic and find his missing siblings. After a briefing on your new life, you understand things as best as you possibly can. Now, it's time to settle into a brand new cottagecore life.

Now that you are a resident of Fable, you have a brand new cottage, a garden, and a few tools to use! There's not an awful lot in your cottage, though: Just a cardboard box, a lamp, a cassette tape and a single bed. Most of the village shops are currently closed due to the bad weather, so it seems like socialising with your neighbours might be your best shot at finding something to do.

Something sparkly catches your attention before you realise it's a message board, advertising an array of tasks for bonus fruit. Did this thing appear out of nowhere just now? That must be the case, since you can swear it wasn't there a second ago. Perhaps the board will urge you to find some fellow people who are in a similar situation as you. It seems that the monthly tasks are geared towards togetherness due to this being the month of love!

When the 14th of February rolls around in Fable, every creature across the realm seems to be full of love! The villages all across the realm have many loved-themed attractions for the occasion. There are Fae folk giving away cookies in the streets, mysterious Cherubs flying around with bows and arrows that might make you suspicious, and a general sense of happiness and warmth can be felt all around.

Of course, Valentine's day is for more than the love shared between romantic couples, though! All kinds of love are celebrated on this day - platonic love, familial love, romantic love, and every other kind in between. To celebrate this romantic holiday, the Fae have poofed some attractions up into Fable including an outdoor café, a magical carousel and an evening firework show! When the fireworks explode, they explode into hearts! Isn't that sweet?

In Fable's town square, a magical carousel has appeared! As you take a closer look, you notice that the wooden horses seem to be alive...?! If you stare and linger for too long, the Fae may pester you to go and ride it! If you succumb to the wishes of the Fae (or decide to ride it out of your own accord), everything will seem to be pretty normal to start. The horses move up and down while music plays, giving a pretty novel carousel ride experience.

Then, suddenly, the horse you are riding will turn around to look at you...!? And then say: "Seems the two of you are getting along just great! Now, we'll take you on a date!" Uh, what!? Before you can ask questions, you realise that the horse you are riding has detached from the carousel, and it is now taking you to a new location with the person next to you to set you up on a date! Both you and the person riding the horse adjacent to you will be taken on a fun date spot by both of these horses. It seems to be far out of Fable, too! The horses will take the two of you for a fun time out in Kanshi! Known for its famous flower gardens and pink foliage, it makes for a wonderful date spot. Once the carousel horses deliver you, they tell you they'll come and pick you up...! On one condition. The condition is that you must either play 20 questions, truth or dare, go out for a meal or make flower crowns for each other. Simply whistle to call the horses back afterwards. Have fun!

// complimentary candy

Care for some candy? Although, you're pretty sure these are cookies ... In any case, there are several fairies flying around Fable with trays filled with complimentary candies! Upon first glance, they just look like a regular plain heart, but once they're picked up, they will tell you something you really need to hear right now. Something to warm you from the inside out!

Once you consume one of these candies, you won't be able to resist complimenting other people as well. The more you eat, the more compliments you'll give!

Uh oh, there's trouble in the air ... Mischievous Faerie Cherubs may shoot you in the heart with an arrow today! You won't feel it, but the momentum of being struck might make you wobble a little.

Red arrows will give you strong feelings of lust. Oh, my. When did everyone here get so attractive...? You feel like you're on fire. Better go somewhere private if things get heated between you and another.

Yellow arrows will make you feel like sunshine today! If you're usually a grumpy grump, you find yourself filled with inexplicable joy. It's probably contagious!

Pink arrows will fill you with so much love for the people you care about. It's like the holiday spirit of Valentine's has hit you full force! You really want to do something to show someone you care about them.

White arrows will give you a case of the hiccups that can only be cured with a kiss! You know the cure, but nobody else does (unless they've been affected too.) What will you do?

After a fun time on the 14th, you feel as though the Fae must be all partied out by now during February. Surely they can't still be partying this month? Wrong! They certainly are! You awaken one morning to discover that music is playing in the distance. If you feel intrigued enough to go and investigate, you will notice multicolour paper decorations lining the streets along with lots of bunting.

Any questions you may have will be answered very swiftly when a peacock bursts out of nowhere, wildly shaking his feathers! "WELCOME TO FESTIVALE!" He says, and before you can open your mouth to speak, he continues:

"One and TWO! Three and FOUR! Your hips! They do not move! They do not hear the music! They do not DANCE! Dancing is not done with your feet, but with your HEART!"

You still don't follow.

"Your heart cannot DANCE while you are lonely! Therefore, you must complete my scavenger hunt to make some friends! You must team up to find the magical feathers I have hidden! Bring the feathers to me, I will reward you with furniture! And you will reward yourself with friendship!"

Okay, you think you get it now. After reading the peacock's directions presented on a wooden sign, you are given the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt! What's there to lose, especially if there are prizes to be won?

Each feather will appear when participating in a different activity!
The activity involves gathering a material and doing something fun together in Fable's locations!
The material seems to be relevant to the type of furniture you want, too ...

Red feathers can be found when collecting stardust in Qijue! In order to assist with this task, a little bit of magic will temporarily give you feathered wings! Once you have gathered stardust from the sky and swapped a meaningful story, a red feather will appear! This feather can be swapped for a random piece of star furniture and its DIY recipe!

Green feathers can be found while gathering glowing moss in Limerick! In order to assist with this task, a little bit of magic will temporarily transform you into a tiny fairy with a moss pouch! Once you have gathered moss and danced together, a green feather will appear! This feather can be swapped for a random piece of moss furniture and its DIY recipe!

Blue feathers can be found when diving for seashells in Villanelle! In order to assist with this task, a little bit of magic will temporarily transform you into a mermaid! Once you have gathered some pretty seashells and played two truths and a lie, a blue feather will appear! This feather can be swapped for a random piece of mermaid furniture and its DIY recipe!

Purple feathers can be found while gathering blossom petals in Kanshi! In order to assist with this task, a little bit of magic will temporarily give you fairy wings! Once you have filled a basket with petals and shared an ice cream, a purple feather will appear! This feather can be swapped for a random piece of cherry blossom furniture! and its DIY recipe!

Once you have hit 5 comments each in your thread (10 comments total), you will be eligible to redeem your furniture and recipe! This is to guarantee the prize in case threads get dropped or fall incomplete. Reply here to do so!

a. arrival

[ Well, this simply won't do.

The barren cottage, that is. Akechi stands outside the door, expression flat as he observes the room (or lack thereof) beyond, arms crossed over his chest. He's somewhat picky when it comes to aesthetics and interiors, and after being whisked away here without his permission, the least the Fae could have done is provide them with more than a few sparse items. ]

Really. A cardboard box? Now they expect us to take out their trash?

[ Said to no one in particular, but if you happen to be nearby, maybe offer up some suggestions to a newbie! ]

b. shot through the heart

[ He already hates it here so much.

After being hit by a white arrow, the unending hell of hiccup purgatory is beset upon him, and he knows instinctively the way he is supposed to cure them, which makes it no better. Of course this would be some mischievous spirit bullshit, and perhaps, in the grand karmic scheme of the universe, he deserves this - but he is not going to go quietly into that good night. Absolutely not.

He avoids others as much as possible, just in case, but he can be caught at the general store, buying some bottled water. He is trying every trick in the book to cure these hiccups the "natural" way, Fae curses be damned.

It's worth the risk to ask passersby: ]

Do you know any good hiccup remedies, by chance?

[ Hic. ]

c. shelling out

[ Collecting seashells sounds like a worthwhile-enough diversion, so Akechi focuses his feather-gathering efforts in Villanelle, a bit wary of turning half-fish for the task, but it proves a novel enough experience to override his distrust of Fae magic.

After hauling his finds to the shore, he begins to sort them in the sand before reaching back to wring out his messy brown hair. ]

Now, then. I believe we're supposed to tell two truths and a lie to turn these into feathers, aren't we?

[ He asks it innocently enough, but he knows that's what they're supposed to do, and it's no small part why he chose this task in particular. He's looking forward to seeing what he can learn about the other villagers, and seeing what they make of him, too.

He may have left his mask behind, but that doesn't mean he can't enjoy messing with others just a bit, as a treat. ]

d. wildcard

[ None of the above prompts for for you? No biggie! Go for a wildcard! You can find me on Plurk at bespin if you want to plot out the details! ]

[If Akira hadn't seen what the white arrow is capable of or run into Sumire beforehand, finding Akechi Goro standing here in this predicament would be a lot more surprising.

But the knowledge that the people he cares about are here, as well as what exactly Akechi's actual arrow situation is, make him a lot more put together than he'd been earlier with his mouth hanging open in surprise.

So all Akira does is tilt his head to the side with a soft, knowing little smile.]

I heard holding your breath can do the trick sometimes. Although that water you have there isn't a bad option, either.

[ ...What is it about that smile that makes Akechi suspicious as hell?? His eyes narrow in obvious, open scrutiny - not that he ever makes an attempt to hide that from Akira anymore, but in this instance, he wants it to be extra clear. He does not trust that look at all.

One hand gripping his bag full of water, the other rests at his hip, posture defiant as ever. ]

Do you really think I haven't tried both of those already? The water is just insurance.

[ He can keep chugging it while coming up with other solutions... ]

Let me guess: next you're going to suggest trying to scare me, aren't you?

[Without blinking at all, Akira looks Akechi dead in the eye and in his most neutral possible voice says:]

Boo.

[He lets that hang there just for a moment before smiling again and continuing.]

Alright, now that that's out of the way. No, I wasn't going to, because I doubt there's much here that can scare you. Me least of all. [Akira's sure Akechi has things he's scared of, even if those are things he'll probably never admit to, but it's very calm and peaceful here. Not really the best scaring environment.] Usually water does the trick for me, but...

[Akira trails off just a bit, arches an eyebrow. Lets a little suspense build. It's no fun if he doesn't make it into at least a tiny bit of a production.]

It's really odd, you know? [There, just a little bit of false innocence in his voice. Akechi's sure to pick up on it immediately.] I heard there's been a bit of a hiccup phenomena going on in the area tonight.

[ ...Oh, he picks up on it, alright.

He fucking knows, doesn't he. Of course he does - his rival is every bit as sharp as he is, as admirable as it is frustrating, in particular when this is a particular phenomenon he wouldn't want to discuss with anyone. Least of all Akira.

His posture doesn't shift, but his expression grows sharper, and just a bit more sour, eyes narrowing. ]

Oh? That's news to me. As you seem to have done more investigation on the subject than I have, what would you say the cause is?

[ He has to verify his suspicions. Perhaps he has a very, very slim hope that Akira may have also discerned a way to banish the hiccups that doesn't involve kissing and feels like sharing it with him, but somehow he doubts that. The impression that the arrow left him with is...unshakably distinct.

Well, living with hiccups wouldn't be the worst fate he could imagine. ]

[Akira's smile brightens and widens, absolutely delighted. There he is. Got him.]

Well, investigating might be a strong word... It's easy to overhear people if they're right next to you talking about it and all. [In other words: eavesdropping, as usual, like a criminal.] No one seems to know the source, though. The people affected do seem to be losing their balance, though... It's almost like something hit them.

[Akira could play all of his cards, tell Akechi that he knows Sumire fell into him and that he knows the solution for getting rid of the hiccups... But there's such a thrill in this, even if it's just a small one. Akechi enjoys the puzzles, usually, and Akira enjoys watching him puzzle it out.]

[ It may not be the greatest puzzle ever solved, but it is a brain teaser, one Akira offers up freely, even if Akechi remains wary. This all feels a bit like a trap... ]

Something that can't be seen, but can be felt...and there's any number of magic spells that the Fae can wield. Just about anything could be the cause.

[ But the means is less critical than the ends, and he has a sinking suspicion that they both know how this is "supposed" to end. Too bad Akechi has no intention of cooperating. ]

Have you heard anything else about it?

[ Just how bold is Akira willing to be? ]

The Fae being the source sounds like a good hypothesis. It'd be hard for anyone else to affect so many people at once without some kind of power, but it makes much more sense with them as the culprit.

[This next part is the one that's hard.

How to keep Akechi guessing without telling him too much or lying... It would be easier if he hadn't asked such a direct question, but most likely Akira's been found out already. And now, his two most important cards are in danger of being played: that he's encountered it directly with Sumire, or that he knows Akechi is aware of the actual cure. Even if lying wouldn't make things less fun, he's sure Akechi would figure that out instantly, too.

Time for the next best card, then.]

I did hear that some hiccupping couples ran off together, or one would pull each other along... It could just be a coincidence, though, considering the season.

[ Hm. He heard that, did he? How terribly convenient. Of course, Akechi is suspicious - he's always at least a little bit suspicious - but regardless, this tells him what he needed to know. Needed to know, but didn't exactly want to know: that Akira has at least an inkling of what the cure might be.

...He really hates it here. ]

Is that so? A coincidence perhaps, considering how widespread the hiccups seem to be. [ He is just bullshitting this. He has encountered literally no one else with this, ahem, affliction. ] Unless...

[ Leveling Akira with a sharp, challenging look. The kind of look he knows well, coming from Akechi. ]

Unless there is a possible cure these couples only happen upon while spending time together.

[ This is a game of chicken now. ]

[The world's worst game of chicken - because these two are involved.]

Interesting. Maybe that would explain why single people are having more struggles.

[Like you, Akira doesn't say, because he still needs to be all head tilts and innocent curiosity.

...But he is pretty eager to see how Akechi will handle what he say next.]

What do you think they've found that's helping them?

[ His lips quirk into the slightest of smirks. He knows what you’re trying to do, Kurusu!!! ]

I’m a gentleman, not a voyeur. Why would I know something like that?

[ As if he needed to talk to literally anyone else to know how to cure these hiccups, but in the event that Akira doesn’t actually know, better to leave it to his imagination, right? Or rather, it’s the more entertaining option. It’s a classic Akechi response in action: answering a question with another question.

He definitely won't come to regret this. ]

[Tsubaki has experienced a lot, but had never become a mermaid. The plus side was that she could breath underwater due to the Kojin's blessing when she was young, so mermaid or not, she had that covered. After picking up her own share of seashells, she glanced over to her company.]

Two truths and one lie? Hmm, that's a game now?

[Her life is strange enough -- even in her own world -- so surely she'd manage to come up with interesting things to say. That was to say, if she could even lie well enough.]

[ That goes for the both of them - he could certainly say three truths that all sound like lies, but that's where things get fun, isn't it?

Tucking a curled fist under his chin, he regards his companion with curiosity. ]

Haven't played it before, have you? It's quite simple. We take turns offering three pieces of information about ourselves, two of which are true, and one of which is a lie. Then the other must deduce which one is the lie. There's no means to win, typically - it's more to start conversations and learn about the other party.

[ Which isn't usually his thing, but, well. He's good at games that involve deception. ]

Hmm... It sounds interesting. Who wants to start?

Oh, I suppose I should introduce myself then. My name is Tsubaki. And you?

[ A polite bow of his head. ]

Tsubaki, is it? My name is Goro Akechi. I can start and lead by example, if you wish.

[ He's perhaps a little too excited about this. ]

That would be fine with me. It's nice to meet you, Goro.

[She has no preference as to who should start, but she will not take away from his interest to do so either. It would also give her an idea of what to expect.]

Very well, then.

[ After a moment of consideration, he continues. ]

First: I was a famed detective while still in high school. Second: I was orphaned at a young age. Third: One of my favorite pastimes includes cycling.

[Tsubaki listened carefully, considering the options. She's unfamiliar with what a high school would be exactly, but it was clear enough that it was something related to education. Probably not that different from their own, with a few varying details. But to be a famed detective that early... That was impressive indeed. A lie maybe? It was hard to say.

Being orphaned at a young age seemed completely believable, knowing her fair share of those back in Etheirys who shared that fate. She herself had lost her parents around his age perhaps. That could have easily been true. And as far as past times, that could have easily been a lie or a true fact without knowing him. The only thing that really stuck out was...]

Mmm... How about the first one about being a famed detective?

[ Ah, he had an inkling that that might sound like the most outlandish one. He shakes his head with a slight smirk, satisfied that he's not entirely so transparent. ]

As a matter of fact, that one is true. Perhaps you'd like to take another guess?

[ There's only two options left. It's a 50/50 shot now. ]

Oh? That's impressive indeed. Then how about... the one about cycling?

[That one could go either way.]

[ A shake of his head, and a soft sigh. ]

I'm afraid that's not it either, which only leaves the second lie, about being an orphan. I'm not, by the way.

[ By, like, a technicality. What a weird thing to make up a lie about, huh?? ]

Ah, I see. My apologies, where I come from, that's not so uncommon... Unfortunately.

[Tsubaki being an orphan herself.]

I believe it's my turn then, yes?

[ Hm...is that some familiarity with the topic that he picks up on? Well, something to tuck away for now. He's not so tactless as to pry into someone else's parentage. ]

That's correct. Please, go right ahead. I'm all ears.

You've got it.

One, I can breathe underwater and can swim with no restrictions.

[ Those all sound dubious in their own way…but more than figuring out the lie, he’s interested in learning more about each of them, true or not. ]

I see…could it be seeing visions of the past? That does sound highly improbable.
