fable test drive meme #1
// away with the fairies
In your land, there may be stories of the Fae taking people away. Perhaps you haven't heard of the Fae at all, or perhaps you are more familiar with them than others. No matter how well acquainted you are with the Fae, everyone around you has experienced the same fate tonight: Being taken by them. Partially, at least. For they did not want to kidnap anyone from their home and take them away from the life they knew. In a small jar of fairy dust, part of your soul was taken in the night and brought to a magical village by the name of Fable.

On arrival, the Fae release you from the jar before waving their magic wands, and materialise this taken little part of you into a brand new you. From here onwards, your new life begins, shared among magical creatures from all walks of life. Here, you will be allowed to grow, thrive and enjoy the bounties provided to you by these mysterious and wonderful creatures. In exchange, they ask for a share of the magical fruit that you grow in your garden, in order for their dragon overseer to reclaim his own magic and find his missing siblings. After a briefing on your new life, you understand things as best as you possibly can. Now, it's time to settle into a brand new cottagecore life.

Welcome to Fable.
// arrival
Now that you are a resident of Fable, you have a brand new cottage, a garden, and a few tools to use! There's not an awful lot in your cottage, though: Just a cardboard box, a lamp, a cassette tape and a single bed. Fortunately, though, it seems that your kitchen is stocked with ingredients. Enough to make a pie, at least! Most of the village shops are currently closed due to the bad weather, so it seems like socialising with your neighbours might be your best shot at finding something to do.

Something sparkly catches your attention before you realise it's a message board, advertising an array of tasks for bonus fruit. Did this thing appear out of nowhere just now? That must be the case, since you can swear it wasn't there a second ago. Perhaps the board will urge you to find some fellow people who are in a similar situation as you. The cold weather might inspire you to go fishing in the river canals, have a snowball fight, make warm drinks for people, get active in the kitchen or go sledding!

Or, just ... do whatever you want! This is your magical home now, might as well make the most of it!
snowfolk!
// do you wanna build a snowman?

While wandering through the village, you suddenly hear a voice appear out of nowhere. "Help ..." The voice speaks, rather ominously, which might alarm you. "Turn around ..." It says again, which may send shivers down your spine that aren't related to the cold. "Now, come closer. No, closer. Closer!" Jeez! You know this place is filled with magical creatures, but what on earth is taunting you at the moment? You can't see anything! There's just a Snowman in front of you.

"Hello." Wait, did that Snowman just--? "I am a Snowman." He did. He talked to you.

"I am lonely. Please build me some friends." Well, it's not like you have anything better to do ... "I will give you a reward if you do. Come to me when you have built, and I will give you a reward." Seems simple enough. You almost walk away to get started, until--

"HOLD IT!" He yells, very loudly for a Snowman. "You must use teamwork to build a Snowperson. The best Snowpeople are made with friends. Find a friend and build a Snowperson for me. Thank you."
Well, there you have it! You have been tasked with finding someone to build a Snowperson with. And of course, because these Snowfolk are magic, they're going to be quite particular about how they want to be built. They may berate you and act fussy during the process. You must divide the work between you and your acquaintance in order to complete your Snowperson. Get creative with hats, scarves, shapes, face designs - and whatever else you think the Snowperson should have!

Your final result will produce either an immaculate (or terrible) Snowtyke, Snowboy, Snowmam or Snowman who will reward you both with a random piece of winter furniture and an extra surprise!

Once you both feel satisfied with your Snowperson,
Please reply to this thread here in order to claim the rewards! Have fun!
the aurora ball
// ballad of the northern lights
In Finnish mythology, it is believed that the Northern Lights (Revontulet) are the creation of a fox who runs across the night sky. In Fable, this very same fox is the one responsible for the Northern Lights of their skies - and while he spends a lot of his time away from the realm to decorate the skies of many other places, he returns every Winter for a fantastic show (and incredible party!)

To celebrate his return, Fable's residents gather in Skáld to host a ball and have a big party beneath the lights. And you have been invited! No need to worry about travel - with your magical invitation, you can be poofed there in an instant! In an act of generosity, the Fox of the Northern Lights has temporarily given you a dose of his magic in order for you to join in the fun! While the party is ongoing, you will have a glowing pair of aurora wings which allow flight, a dazzling new outfit, an immunity to the cold, and the ability to create aurora streaks in the sky!
// the aurora ball
The moment you accept the invitation and arrive in Skáld, the magical effects from the Aurora Fox will activate! Shimmering sparkles will envelope you before you find yourself wearing a brand new outfit and accessories for the evening, and they really are very sparkly! Your floating aurora wings spawn behind you in any colour, and just like that, you're ready for the party! Don't worry about the outfit you were wearing prior to this, it has been transported back to your wardrobe in your cottage. With magic, of course!

The party runs for a few days, and it's a lot bigger than you imagined. Just how many mythological creatures are attending? You and the otherwordly attendees will be staying in a nearby wooden lodge that has been upscaled with magic in order to accommodate its large guests. The lodge has spacious rooms, complimentary meals, and even a heated outdoor pool!

The party itself takes place on a mountain adjacent to the lodge with an outdoor ballroom, Troll DJs playing through the night (with both upbeat and slow music), a bonfire, a food buffet and a bar!
Fancy a drink? There are cocktails and mocktails being served all night by the Troll bartenders! Who knew Trolls were so good at mixing drinks? Cocktails and mocktails are exactly the same in taste, except mocktails don't have any alcohol in them. If your character doesn't like to drink, they can still enjoy the tasty beverage without getting drunk!

Regardless of alcohol content, however, each drink will have a funny effect on the person consuming it.
Pink Pixie will make people feel more flirty and sensual, Minty Manticore will make people hyperactive and chatty, Blue Bunyip will give them a case of the blues by inspiring a little bit of sadness, and Purple Pegasus will make them sentimental and emotional.

Snowmen
Come! [ Her voice, kind and soft as chimes, rings with a warm cadence over the chill of the air. She raises a gloved hand, waving for your attention. Even if she hadn't waved, her smile itself seems to beckon. ] Come, [ She repeats, and then pats a pile of snow beside her, where she's already rolled a sizable sphere for the base of a snowman. Besides this pile of powered ice is a number of other accessories one needs to construct a proper snowman: a carrow for a nose, bits of coal for a mouth, a pipe, buttons for eyes, and a scarf. ]

They say we must make one together. [ Her eyes, golden as her hair, shine with a clever, excited sparkle. ] Would you join me? Ah, don't tell me... you've never built one before?

Aurora Ball- 1
[ What generosity this magic has, to give all a pair of iridescent wings and new glimmering gowns and suit! For Ophilia, who has only ever worn simple the cotton robes of her profession, the dress in which she's put has her fumbling over her thanks to the fae. Although it is but a simple gown of white, it's made dazzling by the ice crystals embroidered into its hem and neckline, suits her simply and elegantly. However... it is, much to her embarrassment, a touch (or tastefully, depending on your preference) risqué, given that the back opens up to accent the magical wings.

Nevermind that, however. What is all this pageantry if not for levity, dance? While she may not know waltzes, she knows folk dances and jigs. Thus, when the music strikes a more upbeat tune, she holds out a gloved hand to you, ready to guide you toward the floor. ]
Dance with me? I shall try to teach you, if you do not know.

Aurora Ball- 2
[ She's approaching the refreshments, this time. ] By the Flame... [ It seems she's a bit winded, okay, literally winded, given that her hair has turned into loose, wispy curls after her latest attempt at flight.

(Maybe you even saw her trying to fly. It wasn't pretty.)

Nevertheless, she sighs happily, leaning her hand against the counter. Oh, how she wishes her companions were here to experience this cheer! ]
Pray tell, what drink do you have there? Is it good?

Wildcard
[ Have an idea? Ophilia is OTA! ]

snowmen!

[personal profile] veardant 2023-01-17 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
[ ah, a carrot..??

tighnari is quick to shake his head, his tall ears perked high as he smiles ruefully. he'd never have thought to roll the snow into a sphere to create the base for a snowman.. his attempts have been, ahem, quite lackluster as of yet. tighnari is quite a good artist, but sculpting, it would seem, is not so much his forte. ]

I can't say that I have. It doesn't snow much in the rainforest.

[ that is: not at all. ]

apologies for the delay!

[personal profile] starseeing 2023-01-29 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ My, but what tall ears the lad has! Do not mind her, eyes widening mildly as she looks them over, from bottom to top. Are those... rabbit ears, perhaps?

...Oh! But it's rude to stare, so she quickly looks back to the carrot, finding herself amused. If he is truly a rabbit, perhaps he'd like to eat it, instead! ]

Ah, then, can you imagine what this piece might be used for the snowperson's head? [ She takes the carrot into a gloved hand, lifting it up to her face and positioning it just over her nose. ] Like this!
veardant: (007)

no worries, take all the time you need!

[personal profile] veardant 2023-01-30 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ he enjoy carrots, yes, but he's definitely not a rabbit! guess again!!

tighnari is also quite used to people being surprised by his appearance, so it rolls right off of his back after a moment, and he chuckles. ]

Ah, a nose, I see. Very inventive. I think I can manage to puzzle out how all the rest works. Shall we get started?

[personal profile] starseeing 2023-02-02 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
We shall, indeed! [ A bright and cheery laugh accompanies her nod, and she sets the carrot down. ] First, before the face itself, we must make the body. To do that... [ As she explains the process, she begins by packing a sphere of snow, then starts to roll it over the field. The ball grows in size as it accumulates more material, rounding out its haphazard shape. Ophilia leaves the middle part of the body and the head for him to make, assisting when needed. Meanwhile, she keeps up their conversation: ]

So, then, might I ask-- how do you envision our snowperson to look like? Taller, perhaps? Or plump as a peach?

snowman

[personal profile] libersacer 2023-01-17 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[She wants to say no, but there's something about the beckoning that's so compelling, and before Irene can stop herself she finds herself approaching the woman. Snowmen. She can do this.

But at the question, Irene starts-]

Huh? [What?] Was it that obvious? [If she ever made a snowman it was a long time ago- so yeah, basically, she's never really played in the snow.]
starseeing: (pic#12648903)

apologies for the delay!

[personal profile] starseeing 2023-01-29 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, dear, she hadn't meant to offend when she assumed! Ophilia raises a gloved hand, palm upward in a placating, apologetic gesture. ] W-well! [ She clears her throat, then starts again, smoothing her tone. ] It is never too late to try. See here, the components used to make the snowman's face! [ She adds, endeared and amused: ] You can even give them a little tophat, like a right and proper gentleman.

[Someone reacting to her presence is nothing new, and she's used to discomforting people; when she had her lantern and her gun, symbols of the Inquisition, Irene got used to the Ægir people looking at her with suspicion. She practically doesn't think about it, and so-]

You need not-

[-Irene starts to say that in a formal tone, reflexive and with authority, and then catches herself as she's not in Iberia, right now. She's not an Inquisitor. There's a snowman to make. This woman (who has a lack of horns or ears, strange) has nothing to do with that. And she's endearing.

So, normal voice:]

I see! I never really thought about it too much...when I was a child they kept me busy learning my lessons and Iberia never got snow all that much. [More like she kept herself busy but shush.] What did your snowmen look like?

[personal profile] starseeing 2023-02-02 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ There's a pause, an instinctive snap of her posture as the other woman begins in a much more formal and commanding tone, but as soon as the cadence corrects, Ophilia's stance relaxes.

She smiles kindly, fondly; something about this stranger strikes her as familiar. A young noble, perhaps, who rarely engaged in such activities? Regardless of her assumptions, Ophilia answers. ]

Ah! We would make ours appear as snowknights! The splendid armor among lords' and ladies' vassals... [ She gestures with her arm above her head as if to paint a picture of a tall warrior with an elaborate helm. ] You know the kind, yes?
libersacer: (wth)

[personal profile] libersacer 2023-02-04 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Well...I...

[Irene falters for a moment, as she's familiar with the idea of knights. Her nation doesn't have any knights, but she knows of knights. But she has to take a moment, because what this woman describes - splendid armor, the honor of lords and ladies - is completely different from her concept of knights.

...which are pro athletes dressed in armor made by various tech companies, complete with product placement and some stickers, sometimes, organized in knightclubs (with the occasional independent knight) battling it out as dubstep plays in the background.

There is a gap between what this woman describes, some storybook fairy-tale, and what Irene understands to be a knight. She has to take a moment to blink.

...it's fine, she can adjust but...Ophilia didn't really look like the sort of person who's really into the idea of The Sports. Huh.]

I'm familiar with the idea of knights, though my nation doesn't have any. [It's fine, everyone has their wide range of hobbies, and just because someone looks like one thing doesn't mean they can't have an interest in something else.] Yes, let's. Are you a fan of knights? I admit, I don't really follow their exploits, though I have one or two as coworkers.
