fourth wall event: endgame!

Back when you were first summoned to Fable, it was for a purpose: To bond with others and help Prism the dragon overseer restore magic to both the realm and himself. After many months of work, a grand feat has finally been accomplished - the fallen Rainbow Bridge has been restored.

This Rainbow Bridge was destroyed by the Witch who captured Prism's siblings, and crossing the bridge will allow a potential rescue operation. The Rainbow Bridge was Fable's gateway to other worlds, and with it restored at long last, others may arrive without being summoned by Prism. Do you feel a calling? An urge for battle? It may feel like a dream - but welcome to Fable, we need your strength.

Prism develops a strategy in order to face the Witch. He grants you full power, giving you access to an element associated with the fruit you grow and all abilities that come with it. In addition to this, you are given a powerful weapon made of any crystal that best represents you, and crystal armour to protect you. This crystal armour is immune to dragon fire, and the weapon will be able to penetrate dragon scales. But ... you're not attacking a dragon, though. Aren't you attacking a witch?

With an army now formed, Prism insists that those crossing the Rainbow Bridge must do so in pairs and hold hands. It would be dreadful if anyone fell off, and togetherness is how magical powers are strengthened in Fable.

Guided by Prism's light, the Rainbow Bridge reaches its end - transporting all of you to a dark realm with a stormy castle. The Witch emerges to greet Prism with taunts and sarcasm.

"HAHA! What a PATHETIC looking bunch! And you thought you could come here to stop the big bad meanie Witch...? What a pity!"

All of a sudden, it feels as though every last shadow in the area gets absorbed by the witch - concentrating into an area void of light. Just then, she transforms into a creature of shadow and darkness - a large, looming black dragon.

"My name is Umbra. Prepare to DIE!"

Crystal armour was definitely the right call. And now, it is time to fight - and some of you must go on a rescue mission.

❖ Those who storm the castle will encounter many obstacles while trying to reach the captive dragons. There are skeleton ghosts made of fire and ice - which can either burn or freeze you if you come into contact with them. To defeat them, you must try to get them to collide with one another. Taking a wrong turn will lead you down the path of dark magic traps - including a doorway which leads to your worst fear or the chance to meet a shadow version of yourself projecting your insecurities which will attack you without mercy. To overcome your worst fear, you must realise that it's not real and the spell will break. To defeat the shadow version of yourself, you must accept who you are, warts and all. These tasks are best completed with a friend or someone close nearby who can help.

❖ Those who fight Umbra directly will struggle at first. It seems as though your attacks may not be doing any damage at all - her body is made of shadows and it's hard to land a hit. But if you are feeling downhearted about your effort going to waste and the hopelessness of the situation, try and find a part of you that won't give up. Positive energy and positive emotions will 'power up' your crystal weapons and armour, strengthening them. This is hinted by them glowing with power whenever you feel an intense burst of positivity. Cheering on your friends or helping allies will definitely make your weapon stronger - eventually reaching a point where you can penetrate her scales and begin to weaken her.

The final blow will be dealt by Prism, as both dragons fight in the sky. When Umbra falls, light returns to the kingdom, illuminating everything in its path. Those who stormed the castle to free the dragons will have succeeded - in the sky, five silhouettes of tiny rainbow dragons fly down to give their older brother the biggest hug.

After an invigorating battle, some relaxation is certainly needed. Or maybe you're a non-Fable resident who has stumbled upon this marvellous spring from your strange arrival in this world! No matter how you arrived here:

Welcome to the Dragon Springs! These beautiful baths lie in a secluded part of the realm and feature fragrant, calming waters which revitalise the body and restore the soul. There's also another property to these springs that might've gone unmentioned ... after soaking in these waters, all otherworldly guests will transform into dragons!

But don't panic: The experience is temporary! If you do some investigating, you'll see a sign which reads: "Dragon Springs! Danger: Might turn you into a dragon! Although don't be alarmed, there's not any real danger. The danger is that you might have too much fun and wish it would last forever! Hahaha!!! Enjoy it while you can!!"

Clearly, a dragon enthusiast wrote this sign ... but regardless, what it reads is true. You will transform into a dragon! Any kind, any size! And not only will guests transform, there might be some side effects...! There is a possibility that those who transform will experience hoarding instincts, nesting instincts, a desire to fly, a desire to show off powers (whatever those might be) and an attraction to beautiful things.

Now that the dragons are reunited and the Rainbow Bridge is restored, Fable has returned to its former glory. A 24 hour party is to be held by Prism and his siblings in order to celebrate Umbra's defeat and the captured dragons' return, which couldn't have been achieved without the help of the otherworldly beings that Prism brought to Fable. It's time to celebrate!

Magical invitations are sent out - very enthusiastically, even - with some of the invitations falling through the Rainbow Bridge and into other worlds. Once the invitation is read, a magical spell begins - the bottom of the invitation asks if the person who found it would like to attend, and if they say yes, they will be magically teleported to Prism's castle to begin the party! Along with the residents of Fable who received the very same letter.

And transportation isn't the only thing that these invitations can do! In a blink, the party guests now sport a very proud and beautiful pair of wings along with a glamorous outfit. Those who have arrived outside of Fable have a magical calming spell on them that will cause them feel as though they are in a dream - there's no reason to panic about ending up somewhere new.

Every arrival will get a magical rainbow wristband which allows them to travel between all of Fable's locations if you want to do a bit of sightseeing before you leave and experience everything that the realm has to offer!
// daytime party
The party starts at dawn and ends long after! The attractions are seemingly limitless - after all, these fun creations have all been brought to life by Prism now that Fable has its magic back!

Apart from the usual party things like a catering area and dancefloor, there's also an outdoor garden with giant flowers, pegasus stables to enjoy a ride, a music stage with all sorts of instruments and an arts and crafts corner!
// evening party
When night falls, the activities change but the party keeps going! Dragon rides among the stars, slowdancing, an ice rink beneath the moonlight and a fireworks show are all part of the evening activities.

One last night is allowed in Fable, with either guests sleeping in the castle or residents sleeping in their cottages. The next day, you will wake up in the bed that the fairies originally took you from, back in your own world - either alone or with company - along with a book next to you cataloguing your adventure in Fable, along with a bundle of leaves that turn into the furniture and other items you earned during your visit. A heartfelt letter is written from Prism to you, finalised with his greatest thanks on being here.

Thank you, my friend. I wish you a lifetime of happiness.

There are refreshments being served all night! Keep in mind, they will cause an effect on you!

Ooooo! This Rainbow Cake looks very tempting! It's a magic cake - one that never runs out! Enjoying a slice of this cake will make anyone have the ability to transform into any animal or magical creature! Whether that's a mermaid, a dragon, a unicorn or a cat ... you can be anything you want! Both fully and partially!

Cocktails and Mocktails are available all day and night from two huge punch bowls which are appropriately marked alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Aside from the normal effect that alcohol causes if you select the boozy option - it will make anyone who drinks it want to share company tonight. You really hate the idea of being on your own, and you definitely don't want to sleep alone either.

Wow, is that a Piñata of Umbra, the dragon which everyone defeated? It certainly is! This magical piñata will re-spawn once it's been smashed open, unveiling an assortment of candies and treats! Candies which will cause a fun effect depending on which one is eaten. If you decide to shovel them all in your mouth at once, you will experience a mix! Consuming Love Hearts will cause you to confess feelings for someone you like. Consuming a lollipop will make you lose your voice until someone kisses you. Consuming gummy worms will make you restless and hyper. Consuming chocolate will make you more relaxed than you've felt in forever.

The Food Catering is practically endless - there's more than you could ever want, tending to all dietary needs! The food never seems to run out, either! Whether it's the high quality food or the adrenaline of a good night, eating the food will make you feel incredibly happy.

♦ i am a shadow, the true self
[ After crossing the Rainbow Bridge, Alhaitham is in the group that storms the castle. The skeleton ghosts aren't a challenge for the feeble scholar, but even Alhaitham can't avoid the dark magic trap. When a shadow takes form, he just scoffs before it even opens its mouth. ]

Cooperate with me unless you want to disappear right away.

[ To be honest, the scribe is slightly surprised that this shadow came to existence in the first place. But since it did, there's no reason not to use it to his advantage. There might be many obstacles ahead and at the end the battle of Umbra awaits.

In case Alhaitham and his shadow encounter someone struggling with their insecurities, they will launch a coordinated attack to protect the person from their shadow version. ]


You have to defeat it yourself.

[ This bizarre tag team can give the shadow a hard time, but it's up to the person to get rid of it one way or another. ]
♦ the dragon springs
[ This sign won't stop Alhaitham because he wants to do a social experiment. As long as soaking himself in one of the Dragon Springs can be called that. Perhaps it can't, but it won't stop the scholar from making that excuse if someone asks. The transformation is painless and shortly a majestic dragon leaves the spring. Alhaitham spreads his wings realizing that he wants to fly, hoard books, spit fire, and maybe even find some dragon eggs he could keep warm.

Dragon Alhaitham can be found in various places:
A. Nearby the springs, nesting a couple of seemingly abandoned dragon eggs. It really doesn't seem like the mother is coming back anytime soon. If you're lucky, you might witness the hatching of baby dragons, too.
B. Flying in the sky at a leisurely pace. Racing takes up too much energy. So does letting someone ride on his back, but it is negotiable, just give him books.
C. Struggling as he's trying to read. Try turning a page with these huge dragon claws! ]
♦ outdoor garden
[ The outdoor garden seems like a perfect spot for someone who doesn't want to participate in the party activities. He's never been a social butterfly to begin with, so finding a bench in a somewhat secluded spot is really appreciated. The scribe understands that someone might look for shelter from the loud people and creatures as well, so he makes sure to leave the seat next to him empty. If someone decides to take it, he will initate a conversation—a rare occurence, really. ]

It seems that we are no longer needed here. Would you mind telling me what your world is like? I haven't studied the theories regarding different timelines and multiverses, but I have to admit that it is interesting.

I. Across the Rainbow Bridge

[It's a testament to how much Hilda has grown to care about this world that she is willing to go fight for it. Clad in crystal armor and carrying a crystal battleaxe - which is thankfully way less creepy than her usual weapon - she turns to the person next to her with her hand outstretched.]

You ready to go fight a witch or whatever?

[Her tone is light, but there's a seriousness in her eyes that suggests she has no intention of losing.]


II. Dragon Springs

[There's nothing like a nice soak in some hot water after a long fight. Hilda's only regret is that she didn't see the sign until after she's already turned into a dragon. Honestly, that's on her--she's been here long enough to know that effects like this are to be expected. At least she's a cute dragon, if her reflection in the water is any indication.

Whether you're in your usual form or also ended up as a dragon, Hilda will be inclined to approach.]

Alternatively, at some point while being a dragon Hilda will find a nice rock to sun herself on. It doesn't take long for her to curl up and doze off--naps are a luxury she often indulges in as a human, so why not as a dragon?

III. Goodbye & Farewell

[Hilda has never been the type to turn down a good party, and this one feels especially poignant. They've won, and with that comes the bittersweet realization that this is her last day in Fable. As such, she is going to make damn sure she makes the most of it.

During the day, she'll be sure to check out the gardens and arts and crafts fair. Throughout the evening, she goes on at least one dragon ride (it's just like wyvern riding back home, minus the war part) and gathers a variety of treats to enjoy while watching the fireworks. When she spies people she recognizes, she makes it a point to smile and approach.]

IV. One Last Night (closed to Itto)

[Even without the effects of the food and alcohol that she's helped herself to, Hilda has no intentions of spending the night alone. It's her final night in Fable, and she knows exactly who she wants to spend it with.

As the festivities start to wind down, she sits down next to a familiar oni and leans heavily into him.]


I'm surprised you're not still out on the dance floor.

[Don't mind her, she's going to avoid the topic of tomorrow for now.]

The shadowy void-Hector walks towards him, sword in one hand dragging across the floor. Real-Hector readies his bow, mind whirring through the possibilities of an illusion, or some kind of shadow mimicry, drawing on his experience as he thinks of ways to deal with this thing--

[ Well. This is his job.

It's good to have a bow in hand again--it's like Prism knows about his connection to Aurene, and that the bow is usually his weapon of choice. It's good. This is good.

When it comes down to it, Hector is unshakable. He stares the massive dragon in the face and does not so much as flinch, and he understands why he was brought here. As much as he hates to admit it...this is who he is now. He is the dragon slayer, and that reputation seems to hold across realms.

He lets arrow after arrow fly, each projectile leaving a brilliant, prismatic trail through the sky. They collide with Umbra's ebon scales, scarcely damaging the dragon's skin, but this doesn't seem to bother Hector at all. He will try and try and try and try and try until he can do no more, if that is what is asked of him. He has pulled off the impossible before, after all. What's one more dragon at this point?

But when he notices that he's not alone in the fight, that someone else is shaken by the sheer hopelessness, he'll pause, just for one brief second. ]


Hey! [ More arrows fly, eyes kept on the person he speaks to. ] Stay focused! You hesitate, someone dies!

[ He speaks from experience. ]

> ONE LAST ROUND
[ Knowing he will have to go back after this makes Hector a bit...antsy. So he's doing what he normally does when he gets like this and is traveling around. On his skyscale!

Catch him all over Rhyme--by his cottage in Fable, hanging around where he first visited Kanshi, and all the other weird and wonderful places in the realm. A lot of the time, he simply lounges in his saddle, staring with a blank, distant look at the scenery. One he only really shows when his guard is down.

He spends quite a bit of time hanging around the dragon springs, watching other people turn into dragons. Maybe he pulls up beside you!

The skyscale is very well trained--if you ask nicely, Hector might even let you ride her. ]

> BASH THE DRAGON
[ This is a familiar festival!

Well. Usually they're bashing all the dragons (save the most important one), and they're usually all over Hoelbrak, so that there's the only one dragon and one pinata is a bit unusual but. this is fine! So long as there is something to smash, he's fuckin' there.

Hefty stick in one hand and blindfold in the other, he'll wave you over with a big ol' grin on his face. If you approach, he'll hold out the blindfold and say: ]


Wanna do the honors?

[ Blindfold and spin him, he means. ]

[ Alternatively, catch him after cracking it open and while he's enjoying his bounty. He's leaning up on a nearby wall, lollipop in his mouth, looking around in a :frogsus: manner.

He. may know exactly what he's doing. ]

i. the final showdown
a. across the rainbow bridge
[For all his boasting, Itto knows that there are a lot of things that can't necessarily be called his strong suit— but this, going to battle? This is exactly the kind of thing he's built to do, and while the conflict ahead is sure to be a challenge, there's no denying that the oni is pretty damn excited about what lies ahead. He grins as he approaches the rainbow bride, hefting what looks like a topaz claymore over his shoulder with one hand.]

Buddy system, huh?

[He looks over to whoever happens to be closest to him, extending a hand.]

C'mon, then! Not nervous, are you?

[Look, he knows the stakes are high here, but even so... this is gonna be fun.]

b. it's showtime!
[Storming the castle is all well and good, and the rescue effort is just as important as the fight itself, but Itto knows exactly where he'll be best put to use— front and center. He joins the others planning to go up against Umbra without hesitation, sword in both hands with Ushi trotting along behind him— no way he was leaving his partner behind on this one.]

Alright, ha ha! Let's get this done!

[His grin hitches from ear-to-ear as he charges forward, eager to throw himself into the fray.]

Do it for Prism!

[Looks like he's not going to have any trouble conjuring up positive emotions— and he's bound to make sure some of that positive outlook rubs off on you, if you need a little help.]


ii. dragon springs
[A soak in the springs seems like the perfect way to wind down after such a hard-won fight, and a nice precursor to the victory celebration to follow. Itto is plenty used to open baths like these, and seems to be right at home with his arms stretched out to either side, head tipped back against the edge as he slinks down to let the water come up to his chin.]

Nothin' like a good soak after working up a sweat...

[He lets out a contented sigh, his scaled tail rising up from beneath the water to give a contented wave.

Wait— his what?!

His eyes fly open and he suddenly forces himself to sit up straight, looking towards the source of the faint splashing noise.]


Wait a minute, is that mine?

[Someone didn't check out the sign beforehand— but it's not like this kind of thing doesn't happen here all the time.]


iii. goodbye and farewell
[When the day of the celebration rolls around, Itto is there with bells on— wouldn't miss a minute of this for anything, not after how hard they'd all worked for it, and he'll be found all throughout the party venue from dawn until well after nightfall. He's not normally an early riser, but all things considered, this seemed worth getting up for, and he's sure his oni stamina means he'll be able to power through without missing a beat.

Of course, his favorite part of any party is always the food— especially throughout the day, he can be found sampling whatever food and drink have been put out, and he'll also take some time to visit and commune with the pegasi, including volunteering to help out at the stable for awhile.

In the evening, he'll be trying his hand at just about every activity that's been made available, but sometime before the fireworks, he'll be out in the garden with a drink in hand, perched on a bench and looking strangely subdued as he looks up at the stars above.]


You know... I've made a whole bunch of friends here. Weird, to think about all of this ending.

[The victory high he'd been riding since the fall of Umbra has faded, somewhat, into something more bittersweet.]

i. shadow self (lost control);

[ What is there to be done?

Albedo steps into an area where something dark manifests, a shadow that looks like him. Something about that is familiar enough that there is no hesitation to ensure he's battle-ready. But, worse still, is the transformation that follows.

Into something so dark and monstrous that it defies any logic or basis in reality. A figure from a nightmare, painted by abyssal shadows, and a maw fitted with sharp teeth; summarily, an apocalyptic entity.

In his heart he knows what this is. It grins sharply before speaking an ugly truth lie:

'You and I are the same.' ]


No.

[ The protest is weak, though, as the seed of doubt has taken root.

It's finally happened. He's lost control.

...But, he's cognizant. It's impossible.

'Yet, that's what Durin thought too, isn't it? The creature hallucinated.' It whispers this poisonous fact into his head, but the words can be heard aloud as well.

He's gripping his sword, staring blankly as the maw opens again, a nasty, corrosive flame gathering. But, he can't get himself to move, sinking further into the burden that makes him question his own sanity. One he concludes he will end up facing alone in the end despite everything. ]


ii. fight;

[ Well, Albedo has been anticipating a showdown of some sort with the source of this realm's problems. But, he can't say that his calculations led him to picturing they would be fighting a dragon.

(It's always dragons, isn't it, hm? This is fine.)

It really is fine, though.

He is well aware that they have rather reliable allies on their side.

So, anyone nearby can encounter him easily. They can find him aiming to assist in releasing the trapped dragons for a good portion of the battle, dealing with some of the hordes of skeleton ghosts, annoying buggers that they are. ]


iii. conclusion;

[ Well.

That was a lot. He's ready to go back to his usual state of doing things now.

He can actually be found at both parties, though. Wallflowering as he is wont to do at some points, or keeping to himself. But, Albedo can probably be dragged into things if someone comes along to get his attention or otherwise. ]
